PSYO A
). Self: explain and define and introduce biological factors and how they affect development and sense of self. I had add (called at the time, now just under ADHD umbrella), insulin resistant so I was overweight growing up, matured quick due to single parent household, had a poor view on self because of father’s absence, struggled with sexuality in teens before coming out gay as an adult. Depression and anxiety due to family dynamics and bullying in school.
). Microsystems: explain what Microsystems are and examples. Me personally – school, I excelled after getting adhd under control, antisocial and no friends, bullied, teacher were like mentors especially in jr high and high school. I wasn’t involved in many extracurricular activities nor sports because of being antisocial and financial issues (family couldn’t afford). Me personally, number 2, family friend who helped raise me and teach me things. She was very influential. She foster my liberal and progressive ideology, taught me to drive, and cook. Taught me to be more social and out going, changed to extroverted personality. Showed me how great I was and could be despite poor self of view and highlight positive traits like compassion, empathy, humor, strong work ethic, etc.
). Introduce Microsystems, define and compare/contrast congruent vs incongruent. Congruent for me – values of respect and and honesty, reinforced at home and by teachers, importance of working hard and meeting education goals at home by single mom who didn’t have a chance for college and by teachers who knew my full potential. Strong moral compass and compassion and empathy. I cannot think of rituals. Incongruent – emotional expression was supported at school and in church but with family and at home was frowned upon and family events that caused high emotions were swept under the rug. Specifically the challenges and rough relationships I had with my uncles and how mean they were while wrapped up in addition. Conflict on my sexuality and if it was right or wrong. Church said wrong but family friend and school said to be myself and live with pride and out. Lastly conflict at school lack of popularity and socialness which was high priority for peers and may strive to focus on education and academic success instead.
). Exosystem- explain and define, give examples. Media that affected me. Family watched Fox News (more conservative news) and friends and family friends watched CNN (more liberal views) often confused me on media narratives about domestic and foreign events. 9/11 media coverage and the event engraved into my mind which I followed the movement of patriotism and unity. I also experienced struggles on social media, not having friends, I didn’t receive many “likes” or “comments” on posts. I also saw what other people had (materialistic) and what they got to do (vacations) that I compared myself and felt less than and sad I didn’t get to have the same things and experiences. Government policies- no child left behind (2002) for education reform, Affordable Care act 2010 family was able to get insurance and visit doctors more regularly. State of Texas STARR programs, stricter education requirements and standardized tests. Introduce the laws and policies before discussing their impact on me.
). Microsystems- introduce and define what macro systems are, values and attitudes include individualism, equality, empathize on religion and following Christianity rules, hardwork and achievement towards goals, diversity despite some racism and discrimination. How they shaped- individualism lead to determinant of success and well-being. Equality- promoted inclusivity and challenge prejudice. Hardwork and achievement- work hard to achieve goals and aspirations due to self determination. Religion- strong connection with god and living as he and Jesus would want.
). Chronosystem- introduce and define. Events parents, rise of internet and mobile phone advancement, social media starts, rise of pop culture and its influences, 9/11.
